I actually saw these pillow covers at a local gift store and had to buy them immediately. Apparently the recent home fashion for silhouetted birds and deer has bitten me hard, too. I wonder if I’ll look back in ten years and cringe of the obvious link between these and the diagonal flying ducks of the 1970’s! Unsure whether I’d regret the off the cuff purchase, but figuring for $30 it wasn’t the worst mistake to make, I was happy to see how cool they looked once at home. Plus, they’re super soft as and comfy. The bold black and white is fantastic on plain white linen and looks equally terrific offset with solids. The other designs I’ve seen of theirs don’t impress me so much; either not incorporating the split design idea well enough or going with odd choices, but here I think they’ve made a hit. Unsurprisingly, Urban Outfitters seem to have a similar line right now and some artists on Etsy have taken it a step further with wall stenciling, which I love!

Okay, I’m not afraid to admit it. If I could be a fictional character it’d likely be a Lord of the Rings Elf! And in this bed I can sleep like Arwyn! I just love the craftsmanship here and it really, truely, is a piece of art work. I can’t imagine how many hours it would take to build this from soup to nuts, but I’m glad she took the initiative. Shawn Lovell’s custom pieces are created in her welding studio out in California and it doesn’t surprise me a bit that she graduated the California College of the Arts with a high distinction.

In her 103rd year, Eva Ziesel is still rocking some of the best contemporary fine design I know of. In my seemingly never-ending quest to replace our knackered chest / coffee table for a real piece of furniture, I think I found pretty much the most original and dramatic piece, not to mention comparably reasonable price tag. Famous for her ‘playful search for beauty” and world renowned ceramics, it was only until her early 80s that she started designing tables! I can only hope to have such a remarkable life. Next on the list: acquire a pad worthy of this piece!
